Hi all, thanks for the great reviews. I was just about to re-order and found out my color was not the same # as it's always been in the past. So...I started down the path of reading about a dozen reviews and have come to the conclusion that I am NOT going to re-order based on your reviews. I don't have time to read all 400+ reviews, so am wondering if anyone has found a good alternative to the DW? I too am VERY disappointed that EL decided to change the formula and colors. Why do cosmetic companies do this? It is so frustrating! Would appreciate any helpful hints for an alternative to DW.
I have been on the hunt for any remaining bottles of the old formula for myself and a friend. I was lucky enough to find one for her, but none for me. <sigh> This new formula is dime store quality at a department store price. Time to find a new long wearing foundation. This formula may be new but it is certainly not improved. EPIC FAIL EL!
The reformulation of Double Wear has made my life so much harder. I've always had very oily skin and acne, and have relied on Double Wear for years to give me flawless coverage that lasted the entire day. Bone 1W1 matched my pale yellow-toned skin perfectly. The new version? Horrible! My color is now orange, texture is sticky, doesn't have the same coverage or lasting power. The original was my savior!! I've spent literally thousands of dollars looking for replacement and none matches the original. Please listen to your customers and bring back the original!
This new formula is so bad, I can't stand it. I have used this foundation for a long time because I thought it was amazing, but the new formula is horrible! It's so matte, and dry and sheer it makes my skin look dull. It doesn't last like it did before either. I miss the radiance and beauty of the old one. I will not repurchase until it is back to the old formula.
Best For full coverage, build able coverage, flawless face
I've wore double wear for probably close to ten years now and I'm still in love with it! The formula has changed but basically all they've done was remove the sunscreen. I don't notice that much of a difference in coverage. Maybe the foundation itself is more watery but it still gives that same great coverage. This is by far my favorite foundation. I've tried many others threw the years & I always come back to this one..it's just so darn good. It covers everything. I have many imperfections due to acne when I was younger and this just covers everything impeccably. It doesn't clog my pores at all and doesn't have a strong scent. Thank you Estée Lauder for continuing to make this great foundation!
Best For oily skin blemishes full coverage stay in place
This is by far the best make up ever. It doesnt rub off on my clothes or my papers at work, it doesn't leave my face looking oily, I never have to touch it up. I can take a nap and wake up and it is still in place. First application looks a little lighter than my complextion but after an hour or so it blends perfectly. Im so shocked at all of the negative reviews. I think the issue is finding your perfect color, be patient. This make up is awesome.
Oh Where oh where is my Double Wear??? Estee Lauder what have you done? Many years testing trying and searching lead me the amazing formula of Estee Lauder Double Wear. It was Heaven. It lasted, covered, had amazing colors and was perfection a bottle. Then you changed perfection. We are all left with dreams of what we loved, and a second rate, watered down, oily, off color impostor with no staying power compared to the old formula. This opinion is echoed on beauty sites, on YouTube, through retailer reviews and clearly here on you own website. Are you listening Estee Lauder?? I always recommended this to friends who passed it to their friends, and now we are all left disappointed, confused and at square one. LISTEN to your customers. Bring it back. We are waiting.
I just purchased a bottle of Double Wear and I am so disappointed. This stuff is like glue and looks so dry on my face that it appears to be cracking. I have broken out on my chin which is something that I have never done. I switched to this formula shortly after my all time favorite, Individualist, was discontinued. I was using Dusk. This new shaded is darker and muddier. Will not be buying anymore.
I used to work for Estee Lauder and this was by far my favorite product. Not only did I sell it like crazy but I also turned all my friends onto one of the most popular foundations in America. I have tried every long wearing foundation I have ever heard of, and nothing compared to Double Wear in lasting an entire day without any touch-ups. I loved being able to just purchase a product without even trying it on. Now my journey begins to find a Double Wear dup. If anyone knows of one please share!
I absolutely loved Estee Lauder Double wear foundation with spf10. I have used it for well over a decade. Perfect coverage, color and lasting coverage. The new formula is horrible!! Why did you change it?? I know from reading other reviews I am one of a majority that feel the same way. Please bring back Double Wear liquid foundation in the old formula with spf10. It's OK to make a mistake now it's time to correct it.
Another very dedicated Double Wear (live in Florida) Shell (light complexioned, some ruddiness) customer here, along with original Idealist, DW concealer, powder, and the eyeliners. Was so surprised and disappointed when I went to pick up a new bottle at the counter this evening that they didn't have it any more! Ivory Nude was too yellow, Cool Bone (I think it was) was too pink and looked chalky. Just ordered a bottle online and am grateful to find it still available here - just hoping the formula hasn't changed too much and it still will stand up to Florida humidity, after reading all the comments about formula changes as well. I've recommended DW and EL so many times over the years whenever I get a compliment on my skin - hope I can still do so!
This was my staple and I stocked up on it. I finally ran out of the old formula in rich cocoa. The new rich cocoa has a red tint and is thin. I use to buy 5 bottles at a time. Now I need to search for another foundation.
I have used Double Wear "Shell" for years. It was the only long wear foundation I could find that came in a color light enough for my pale skin. Though I was assured by customer service that I would be happy with the replacement color for Shell, in reality I couldn't be more disappointed. The replacement is a lot darker and looks riduculous - it makes my face look dirty due to the darker color. I found a competitors product that is a close match but I'm not really happy with it and will continue searching Please bring back the old colors!
I have worn this foundation (original version) for years. I received compliments on my beautiful complexion not my makeup. Now they have changed the formula. It is horrible!! I urge others who are disappointed in the new version to write a review and to call or email estee lauder as I have done and voice your opinion. Maybe just maybe they will listen.
I don't understand how this foundation w it's new formula has gotten so many terrible reviews. I got a sample of this foundation from another store and absolutely LOVED it. I bought this foundation (w its older formula) a year ago and after a month of use, I had to return it bc it was so heavy, sticky, didn't fare well in humidity, and actually transferred onto my clothes. I wanted to give this foundation another shot bc something was urging me to. Little did I know, I freaking fell in love w it and plan to purchase the full size. This time around, it didn't feel sticky or heavy nor did it transfer onto my clothes, and actually held up very well through humidity and sweat. I wore it throughout my Vegas trip this weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the change in experience. I thought it was the lotion I had used prior to applying the foundation, but it turned out that the formula changed. Pure Biege is my exact color, and the coverage and sheen are exactly what I've been looking for in a staple foundation. I accidentally fell asleep in my makeup after 3 straight hours of dancing in a packed and humid nightclub and woke up to my makeup looking as fresh as when I first applied it. I'm so very satisfied w their change, and can only wish that EL will stick w this one.
As for a smooth application, I smear dots of foundation all over my working area, take my buffing brush to stipple and further spread the foundation, then buff everything in before I move on to the next area of my face. This method has worked very well for me.
SO I have noticed a difference in the make up not last AS long, and it is a bit thinner. I used to tell everyone this was IT, THE BEST in the world. now I am not sure. I used to pay 32.50 for this make up and it was amazing. Now it seems like they cheapened it by making it thinner and raised the price. So unfortunate for someone who tries to save money everywhere I can. I used to buy the powder too, but they went to a smaller compact! I understand price increase but to make it thinner AND raise the price?? I don't understand that. I never thought I would say that I am currently looking for a new miracle foundation, that will last all day and one where I won't have to touch up at any point in the day.
