Why Fix What Wasn’t Broken…So Disappointed!!
Date:June 9, 2013
Dear Estee Lauder, I have been a long and faithful user of Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup. Finally, after years of searching for my perfect foundation makeup…I found Rich Cocoa, and fell in love. I continuously raved to my friends about DW Stay-In-Place Makeup, and even go with them to the counter to get a matching color. I usually purchase two bottles at a time, but ran out, and needed to replenish. Consequently, off to the EL counter I went, and to MY SURPRISE you changed the formula/color!! The Rich Cocoa color is no longer a match for me…none of the colors is. I had to go on a hunt to find the old formula/color…I made calls, and drove distance to different locations looking for my Rich Cocoa color, and I was lucky enough to find two bottles…the LAST two at a Holt Renfrew store. I am now on my second bottle, and hoping that you’re in the process of bring back the old formula/color, or I just have to disappointedly go searching again for my perfect foundation makeup which I am not looking forward to. ESTEE LAUDER PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD FORMULA/COLOR!! THIS IS MY FIRST TIME EVER WRITING A REVIEW, BUT I HAD TO BECAUSE I AM HIGHLY DISAPOINTED!! Please take note that the rating went down to 2.5 out of 5!!
When I initially started using this foundation, I absolutely loved it! The coverage was excellent (I have a lot of unevenness and acne scars) and it stayed all day even through heat and humidity. My skin looked absolutely radiant. Well, I don't know why in the heck you would change a good thing! This new formula is by far the worst foundation I have ever used. My face was dry. Broke out in bumps and the matte finish was so dull I looked 20 years older. The formula is also pso drying that my face felt like it was being pinched together. Estée Lauder, you really dropped the ball on this one. I don't know who decided a new formula would be better but this stinks. I definitely would not recommend this to anyone and I have told others not to waste their money on this particular product.
I had troubled skin started using double wear foundation since I was 18. I'm 22 now and I am absolutely appalled at the colour change in this foundation! Wheat looked flawless on my skin and have recommended your foundations to my friends as well. Nothing was good as the old forumla and I don't understand why you tried to "fix" something that wasn't even broken. Horrible mistake estee lauder! Please bring back your old forumla otherwise you will loose not only me but millions of loyal customers that have used the original products for years.
I never write reviews but felt this strongly about it to write one. I really hope someone in your r and d or product development department looks at this.
Dear Estee Lauder! What have you done?!?! The new DW formulation is horrible! It comes off on all my collars, the new Fresco color is definitely not the same and now there is nothing that matches quite same as the old Fresco (2N2). The look and feel and coverage is not the same. Why change a good thing? Have you read these reviews? If so, are you considering making a change back to the old formula or is this it? I am so disappointed to now have to begin a long and tedious search for the best foundation ever. You have lost a customer...diappointing because I have just recently fallen in love with your toner and mascara.
Finally I have found a foundation that keeps my oil slick t-zone well covered all day. Fantastic coverage, not cakey. Keeps shine under control all day without looking dried out or slipping. A little difficult to blend initially but it does on perfectly if I apply oil free moisturizer then apply foundation with my fingers before it's dry. I use a foundation brush to blend the edges to finish. I don't even use powder any more! Love this stuff!!!
Why fix something that isn't broken. My friend recently turned me onto this makeup after looking for the perfect liquid foundation for years. I got the perfect match and was in love with the consistency of this makeup and how it looked on my skin. My previous color was the 2N2 Fresco 01 and the new fresco looks and goes on nothing like the old one. I will not be re-purchasing. Hopefully you guys can see your ratings went from 5 start to 3 in such a short period. This says a lot and I hope you guys get the old formula back or you will lose a lot of customers when their bottles run out.
I have loved Double Wear since it came out. The old formula was wonderful, but now the new formula is too dry and sheer. Please bring back the old formula. I had to go to the Cosmetics Company store to get an old bottle; I took the new bottle back to Macy's.
I was really impressed with the old formula when I first started using and was quite positive that I would be using it for years. I was super excited when the new formula came out with new shades as I thought I would be able to find a shade that suited me even better. I am using 1W2 Linen and at first it goes on a little whiter than my skin color, but after a couple hours of wear, it oxidizes and blends into my skin tone. I went to purchase the new shade 1W2 Dawn but it's too dark compared to Linen... If I go one shade lighter it's way too light. WHAT DO I DO NOW...! New formula + New shades... NO GOOD.
I love your 2C1 dusk makeup foundation. So happy with it. I am trying to find thesame but it became 3w1. I'm afraid to try to the new formula due to generally negative feedbacks about it. I did get a 2-day sample and of the 3w1 but I seem to like the 2c1 dusk kmore. Will you ever make it with the old formula again?. I spend a lot in Estée products monthly. Please don't make me go to another brand. Thanks
I love the new formula. The key is to find the correct shade match for your skin tone. When the shade is off it will feel or look different. When I first tried it out, I wasn't color matched properly and my thoughts about the product were similar to the way other customers felt about the new formulation. However I didn't give up hope and tried a different shade that made all the difference. It is an excellent foundation and I highly recommend it. Feels airy, smooth and the coverage is buildable. It does stay In place and still looks great after a few hours wear. The shade selection is impressive. I will definitely repurchase, as It feels amazing on! Thank you Estee Lauder. Hope it isn't discontinued.
Best For Oily Skin, combination skin, Long-wear, stays put, Dry Skin, humidity
I got a free sample of this at my local Estee Lauder counter because I was looking for a foundation that would really last all day with minimal touch-ups. I have very oily skin so it's really difficult for me to find a foundation that stays without getting oily. But this? I would put it on at 9AM and it was still covering at 10PM and I only needed to use one or maybe two blotting sheets in that whole 14-hour span! I was thoroughly impressed and I will probably never buy another foundation again; this is the one. It dries quickly and it doesn't feel heavy whatsoever once it's set which is something I love. All in all, I love this foundation more than any other foundation I've ever used. It's sort of pricey but you literally only need a pea-sized amount for your whole face/neck! Go out and get this if you want to be amazed!
I've been wearing Double Wear Foundation for years and absolutely loved it. I have rosacea and Double Wear 1C1 Shell 15 is the only foundation and color that covers and neutralizes the red, sometimes purple, color of my natural skin tone. I was upset when I recently went to replenish my supply and discovered my color had been discontinued and a new one (1C1 Bone 66) was in its place. I could immediately see that the tint is reddish but I was told that it was the lightest color now available. I had no choice but to try it. When I got it home and put it on for the first time I actually broke down in tears. The foundation color not only doesn't cover the redness in my skin it seems to accentuate it. The "new formula" is horrible. By the end of the day what little coverage I had is almost completely gone. Now I have to begin my hunt again for a foundation that will allow me to feel comfortable showing my face in public again. With the old foundation I used to constantly get compliments on my skin tone and how flawless it looked. Now I'm embarrassed to show my face and feel like everyone is staring at me. Why, why, why did Estee Lauder choose to mess up what was a wonderful product??? You've lost me as a customer until you bring back the original formula and my color! This may seem like a little thing to the corporate powers-that-be in the company but to me it's life altering.
Best For people who never tried the original double wear
I've been using the original Double Wear foundation for many years, and was disappointed when I went to the store to get a new bottle since mine was running low, only to find that it has been reformulated. First gripe: there is no longer SPF in this foundation. I know SPF 10 isn't much, but it's certainly better than nothing at all. Second gripe: the color I used to wear (Dusk 2C1) is now numbered as 3C1, and it's too dark for me. I have tried at least 3 shades in this new formula, and none of them are a good match so far. I'm getting ready to go return yet another bottle of wrong-color Double Wear to the store tonight. Third gripe: the coverage is not the same as it used to be, nor does it last on my skin near as long as it used to. I wish I could give this foundation zero stars, because I feel like it deserves it now. Double Wear foundation used to be a Holy Grail for me, now it's been reformulated into a Holy Fail. I'm very disappointed, and really have no idea what brand I'll be trying next. My skin is pretty oily, and Double Wear *used* to be one of the few foundations that would actually last more than half a day on me. Please bring back the original formula. People loved it, and seeing all the negative reviews on here regarding the new formula really ought to tell the folks at Estee Lauder something. The reformulation of this foundation was NOT an improvement.
I have been using Double Wear foundation in ICI Shell for 10 years now. It was the perfect color and coverage for fair-skined individuals, prone to acne. It has now been replaced with the color "bone". I was told by makeup reps. at the Estee Lauder counters in both Macy's and Bon-Ton stores that this was the same exact formula and color with a different name. This was so far from the truth. They gave me the bottle and I told them it was more orange than my old foundation. They completely acted like I didn't know what I was talking about and then proceeded to give me a sample that was labled "bone" but clearly had the old "shell" formula in it. The samples were a perfect match, so I proceeded to listen to them and buy the full bottle only to try it on at home and it was clearly much oranger and did not even cover like the old formula. I was mad enough that Estee Lauder discontinued my favorite color, but then to be manipulated by the Estee Lauder reps in 2 different stores, aggrevated me even more. I will be returning the new bottle and searching for a different foundation. I see that there are several unhappy customers writing reviews on this. We can only hope that the old formula/color of shell is brought back. Not everybody is born with dark skin and it's ashame that lighter skinned women have to deal with being orange vs. being able to embrace their lighter skin.
For years, I've switched between Bare Minerals and drugstore liquid foundations which never quite matched my very pale skin tone. I was always concerned about the price of a higher-end foundation, but after getting fed up with products that weren't working for me, I did some research, and discovered that Double Wear seemed to be THE foundation of choice for makeup savvy people on the web. I read so many rave reviews, and decided that i HAD to try it. Unfortunately, a few weeks before I discovered DW, the formula and shades were changed. I went to my makeup counter, where I thought all 3 of the pale shades weren't right for me, but the makeup consultant "matched" me to a shade...so I took it home. The wear was better than many foundations I've tried, but didn't have the near magical staying power I had come to expect. I also came to realize that the makeup didn't match my skin tone AT ALL; being way too yellow for my fair/pink skin. All in all, I was very disappointed, and after reading the negative reviews here, I'd like to join my voice to the chorus asking for the original formula back! I am excited that it seems Shell will be reintroduced, so I will probably give it a try, but please, if it isn't broken, don't feel the need to fix it.
This used to be my HOLY GRAIL foundation, but not anymore! To say that I am irate that the foundation has changed would be an ABSOLUTE understatement. The new formula is thinner in consistency and no longer possesses the longevity that the old formula had. I understand the broadening of the color range, but in the process of broadening the color range and removing the SPF the formula completely changed. This was the only foundation that I used since I was sixteen. I am getting married in the near future, and I am at a loss as to what to use as my foundation on my wedding day since my beloved Double Wear formula has been annihilated. I also used to use the perfectionist and advanced night repair but I REFUSE to purchase any more Estee Lauder products (or purchase anything products owned by Estee Lauder including my beloved creme de la mer) as I am deeply disappointed with this change! I beg you, Estee Lauder, please change the formula back to its original state! Until then, I bid you adieu Estee Lauder!
As a disclaimer, I would have given the new product 0 stars if it would have allowed me to do so!
I generally do not write product reviews, but I decided to venture out of my comfort zone and share my two cents with the hope that maybe it would foster the impetus for change or at least the return of the Shell color.
I'm of Irish descent -so my skin tone is quite on the lighter side with mild pink undertones. The 1C1 Shell was the perfect match and the perfect make-up. The coverage was not only substantial and long-lasting, but unless someone were inspecting my face with a magnifying glass, the color difference between the make-up and my skin was barely noticeable. It really is quite a daunting task for fair skinned people to find make-up that not only conceals well but also matches their skin tone.
The new replacement, 1C1 Cool Bone is much too dark and much too red/orange and simply pales in comparison to the old 1C1 Shell. It neither does justice for the old 1C1 Shell color nor is it an adequate match for my skin or any other person with fair skin. As for the formulation, I don't mind it -albeit I find it to be quite a bit more opaque and heavier with the a slight tendency for uneven coating and spotting.
I personally love Estee Lauder's products and I find their quality superior to all other brands. I really did love the Shell, and I can see that many other customers did as well. Its return would be most appreciated and celebrated. So in the end, I may have to explore my options with other companies. Again, I really love Estee Lauder, but I can't go around looking like an Oompa Loompa.
I work Double Wear for years. The new colors are not the same formula. I have contacted Estee Lauder and they have indicated the formula has not changed. It has.
The old product was excellent for oily skin. It stayed in place with only one blotting a day required for my very oily skin. This new formula is more difficult to apply evenly and my skin is oily within 2 hours and remains oily all day (constant blotting and caking). It is so disappointing when a wonderful product is 'improved' to the point you no longer want to use it.
Before the new revamped formula was recently introduced I wore Double Wear for years and loved it. The only minor complaint was sometimes it would seem too dry for my skin. Then several months ago EL decided to revamp the formula and colors even though some of the major stores either denied the change in formula or some seemed to have no clue or would not say. Oh, they changed the formula!! It now has no staying power and does not cover at all as it also now sinks into my pores. I have since changed brands much to my dismay. According to other reviews I am not alone in my disappointment.
